Po' Man's Regimen#2: Moisturizing Leave-in Conditioner

A lot of women like the Carol's daughter,Abba, and Qhemet biologics leave-in's ,but for sistahs on a budget,I have an alternative.

Recipe
*1 spray bottle, at least 20 oz. capacity
*1 part your favorite conditioner
*5 parts water(preferably distilled, but faucet does just fine;depending on where you live, lol)
*Shake up, and Voila!

Important Note(s):Make sure that the conditioner isn't a reconstructor, protein,or deep conditioner. This spray is designed for daily moisture, detangling, etc. You CANNOT use anything with protein in that nature, it will make the hair hard and cause the strands to snap.

My Way:

This is my homemade leave-in conditioner. I use 1 part of my favorite conditioner, below, and 5 parts water. I love the way this smells and so does everyone who comes into close proximity of me.

I don't add any type of oil to the mixture. If I want oil in my hair, I add it to my hair before or after spraying. The reason being, I like for my mixture to be uniform, not needing to be shaken before each use. However,I will add vegetable glycerin or honey every now and then.

Product Showcase: Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream

This is a reasonably-priced item that I find at Wal-Mart, Wal-Green, CVS, or any dug store; on the "ethnic" hair aisle. I would never use it as a leave-in. When I would spray my hair with water to re-style it, the cream would coagulate in my hair, leaving me with white beads everywhere. One thing I have noticed, is that people with hair textures of 3c and below don't have the "white-bead coagulation" problem. So as a leave-in it is best for women with textures between 2b-3c.

However... I do use it as a deep conditioner. I apply it to damp hair with a processing cap. Then I leave it in overnight or sit 45 minutes under a hooded-dryer.Another reason I like it is because shea butter is at the top of the ingredients list,as it should be.

5 a,b,and c : the new hair type classification

By now, I know some of yall are thinking, "Whoa Nelly! New hair type classification? I thought that 4c was as kinky and nappy as it gets!"

Apparently, trichologist or dermatologist, have discovered a new hair type classification. People who fit into this hair classification need ample moisture and protection. Hair can be very curly and similar to the matted fleece of a goat, if left dry and uncared for.

It appears that this hair type is the best for twisting, sister locs, dred locs, and braids. You never have to worry about the hair unraveling. I would have uploaded more images of this hair type , but its discovery it so new , there aren't many images of it available.

Tips :

  1. use very heavy oils, butter, hair creams, and lotions.

  2. Deep condition as least once a week.

  3. keep a bottle of spritz available, and give hair a few pumps throughout the day.

  4. Oil or "grease" scalp at least two to three times a week.

  5. Keep hair in protective, low-maintence styles : such as two-strand twist, braids, etc.

I thought some of my fellow naturals were just being difficult, when they complained about extreme hair problems : dry hair no matter what they applied , numerous broken combs,________,_______, feel free to fill in the blanks. The realization that they may have been serious has now hit me.

All I can say is Lord ha'mercy on 'em. Water, vegetable glycerine, shea butter, and mango butter; will be their best friends.
